Monday, March 30
We spent some time at Speedworld familiarizing ourselves with the GoPro Hero HD in preparation for some action sequences. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked in indoor light. I was almost able to keep up with Mariondretti today. It's time I start working on the weight:power ratio.

Happy Birthday, Mär! Let me see your birth certificate again, there is no way you're 50!!
Turns out I'm the one that got the present. We've dealt with Mär's objections and her cold is quickly fading so it's all systems go to get started on the audition video. We've got some ideas for the video and a pretty good idea of who we want behind the camera. We'll try to lock those details down SAP.
Please, if you're reading this, sign up as a follower and comment away. Whether you think we need to be checked into an asylum, or it's the coolest thing for a grandparents age couple to pursue a spot on Bullrun, we want to hear from you. Lots of followers would look good on the audition too.
If you'd like to follow me on Bullrun.com my user name is ol_phArt.
That's it for today.

We had friends over for dinner last night. Despite her cold Mär prepared another of her wonderful home-cooked meals. Bullrun made the conversation but I managed to conceal my desire to be on the show.
Saturday dawned a nice sunny day and Mär is feeling much better. I think I'm getting closer to an answer. Typical conversation around here sounds like this:
Mär, "Mom called about tomorrow."
Me, "Your choice. I think I'll pick up the GoProHero HD today."
Mär, "She wants to get together for coffee."
Me, "Sounds good. We'll need xenons for the night stuff."
Mär, "I'd like to go to Half Moon for supper."
Me, "Sure. Do you think it's faster for you to run around the truck or to climb over the console?"
Mär, "I'll tell mom we'll pick them up around 4:30."
Me, "Okay. I really need to find out how a Torsen center diff would react to driving up a moving ramp. BTW, do we have any plans for tomorrow?"
After dinner we watched a chick flick, Jane Austens "Persuasion". Ironic title now that I think of it. :o)

Friday, March 26
We were at small group Thursday evening so we recorded episode 6. I had to watch it as soon as I got home while Marion, still battling her cold and exhausted from the afternoon at food bank and the evening out, went straight to bed. I once again thoroughly enjoyed the driving legs and the challenge, developing even more respect for this seasons competitors, especially Iceman (Mark) and Julia of Team Hemi-Cuda. I also got a sinking feeling that two parts of the show weren't going to help with Marion. The first was Team BMW stopping for burgers because they were really hungry (Marion really likes to eat regularly and doesn't do well when she misses meals) and the second was both team members driving in the challenge.
Marion did watch the show after lunch today and while I was right about the reservations she would have ....... she didn't say "no"!! :o)
My mind still hasn't stopped. I've got a list of ideas for the video and a list of exercises for us to do to prepare. If nothing else comes of it I've had a lot of fun already thinking about it.
Being realistic, I know that if Marion says yes, we'll put a lot of time, effort and resources into the audition video and preparation realizing we may never get so much as a phone call out of it. I'm okay with that, because we're going to have a lot of fun and a lot of laughs doing it.

My mind is nonstop in trying to figure out how to do the video and what the content should be. I've watched hours of audition videos on youtube, read hundreds of posts in the Bullrun Forums, watched every Bullrun video I could find on SpeedTV.com and read everything I could find online about the reality show.
Marion is still fighting her cold so she hasn't said "no" yet. That means it's still full steam ahead in my mind. "Mr Burnz" posted up a mini-bullrun that is planned for Red Deer, AB and seeing we're free that weekend and Marion agreed to it I signed us up. I also dropped a PM to one of the competitors in this year's show to get an idea on the logistics of being on the road for the show. Let's just say the information didn't help my cause any. Oh well, if nothing else I'm tenacious, and .... wait for it ..... Marion hasn't said "no" yet!!

Today the search starts in earnest. First stop, in TV guide. Excellent, there are replays of episode 2, 3 and 4 scheduled before episode 6 airs. We get to catch up. Episode 1? Looks like we'll have to wait until April 4 to catch that one.
How do people get on the show? Google is my friend. www.bullrun.com has the answers, links and forum. I decide to sign up using my latest forum name, "ol_phArt". It's funny how I can embrace the very rhyme I hated in elementary school! I guess being mostly retired and staring 50 in the eye does that to me.
The mind races:
Who will be my navigator? That's a no-brainer. Either I do this with Marion or I don't do it at all. Now I have to convince her that this is a challenge we want to pursue.
Which vehicle do we want to use? Solstice? Nope. Too low, no cruise & no A/C. with the roof closed and windows up rule we would roast in California. Bimmer? Another negative. The handling is simply not good enough and I'm not prepared to destroy a perfectly good tourer. I repeat the rule once again, "don't bring more to the track than you're prepared to walk away from". HUGGRRR? Not a chance. We're a motor away from it even rolling again and there's no way we or the car could survive 4,000 miles together. That narrows it to one choice, the Trailblazer SS. Solid HP and torque, AWD, decent suspension, comfortable and dependable. In my opinion what it gives up in absolute power and handling it makes up in versatility.
Me, "so Marion, you in?" Marion, "let me watch another show."
We watch recorded episode.
Me, "You in Marion?" Marion, "It looks like fun but I don't think I'd survive."
We watch another recorded episode.
Me, "So, decided?" Marion, "I won't say 'no' until I'm over my cold."

Still staying home with a cold, this time Marion is home too. Season 3 - episode 5. Another great show and some incredible driving by the Iceman. Now I really need to know more about the show and how they chose the competitors.

Tonite I stayed home from small group because of a cold. I bundled up under a blanket with cup of tea and the TV remote. 9 PM - Speed Channel - Bullrun - Season 3 - Episode 4. How have I managed to miss this until now? A new favorite TV show, and more importantly, how does one get on the show?
