Day 11: Cave Junction, CO to Ferndale, CA

Here's another "we started the day in fog" pictures. This is Hwy 199 leaving Cave Junction.

Before long we were back on 101 making our way down the coast. Here's a vista stop.

A little later we stopped for our first hike of the trip at the Klamath River section of the Coastal Trail. Lucky for us, we read the sign that gave instructions for dealing with wild animals so we were able to remain calm when we encountered this giant slug? on the trail.

Fog rolled in intermittently as we hiked creating ever changing visuals.

Our original plan for the day had us continuing south to the Avenue of the Giants however our failure to find a restaurant that appealed to us in Eureka caused us to detour into Ferndale in search of a meal. We happened upon the Victorian Inn and thoroughly enjoyed a simple meal cooked and presented beautifully. Having lingered over our meal, we decided to make it an early day and took a room in the same hotel.

The early stop gave us time to walk Main Street.

The hotel has a Common Room with tables, a kitchenette, couches and a fireplace where we relaxed and caught up on e-mail, the market and the blog update.

Tomorrow we'll make our way down the Avenue of the Giants in a leisurely fashion.
