Day 25: Hearst Castle

Today was our 300+ mile drive from Monterey to Los Angeles. We drove down Highway 1 through Big Sur again, stopped for a quick tour at the Hearst Castle, continued on 1 then 101 for a while before ducking onto CA-192, 150 & 33 for some fun driving before finishing the drive in on 101. Some vista stops along the way.

Big Creek Bridge.

The highway.

Approaching Hearst Castle on the shuttle from the visitor center.

One of the guest houses.

The Neptune (outdoor) pool.

The front of Casa Grande (main house).

The Roman (indoor) pool.

The castle was quite interesting however our pictures are limited as we were part of a group of about 40 people on the tour and flash photography was not allowed. I'm pretty sure a search for Hearst Castle images would be quite informative.

Once back on the highway we spotted these horses with pajamas on. They belong with the Hearst Corp. herds.

We stopped for dinner well off the beaten path at a stagecoach stop for the 1800's. Nice rustic place with decent food, real fireplaces and washrooms "out back".

We then completed our drive to LA to settle in for the night.

Tomorrow is set aside for the LA Auto Show.
