The vistas along the way were stunning.
Bixby Bridge.
The ocean.
A piece of land we weren't allowed to go to.
Our first extended stop was at Andrew Molera State Park. While the hiking wasn't particularly challenging or exciting, the things to see were quite something. An interesting tree ...
Deer grazing ....
The Cooper Cabin, built in 1861, is the oldest building on the Big Sur coast.
Trees with interesting "leaves" ...
This is a wintering area for Monarch butterflies and there were thousands.
A bunny ...
... duck ....
... people on the beach ...
Birds on the rocks (cormorants?)
Lots of seagulls ....
... and a seagull bath.
Our next stop was at the Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. We hiked up to the falls ....
..... and along the Valley View path. The valley itself was too hazy for good pictures but at the height we were at we were able to look over and down on the birds that were soaring in the valley. This picture doesn't do it justice but at one point we were watching 7 of them.
As we drove we were amazed at some of the houses and their locations along the coast. This one looked particularly interesting.
Another vista shot.
Painted on the lot at one of the vistas.
The falls at the Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park.
Another vista.
And one more as sunset approached.
And one last shot as the sun said good-night.
We drove back to our hotel in Monterey and headed to Fisherman's Wharf for a Chowder and Salad dinner.
Plans for tomorrow are to tour the Pebble Beach and the Carmel area.
