So we've pretty much slipped into "lazy" mode now. We're enjoying the journey ... even if it's only a hundred or so miles a day ... instead of looking ahead to a destination. We had a slow start to our day, lingering over a wonderful breakfast at the Victorian Inn Restaurant, stopping at the grocery store for snacks and visiting with Beverly at Beann's Jams before finally departing Ferndale. We made our way down US-101 to the Avenue of the Giants exit.

"Giants" the the correct terminology.
Not only are they large in circumference, they're extremely tall and most are poker straight. This isn't the lumber we find at Rona.
The signs said there was a seasonal bridge to cross the river. This one on of the bridges we found and crossed.
Once on the other side, we found the actual "seasonal" bridge .... proving once again that we're travelling off-season.
It was a good thing we did cross as it turned out the redwood of redwoods was on the other side.
Wide ....
.... and tall.
Along the way we met the very wise Liam. He'd had enough of walking and told his dad, "Give Sam (his younger brother) to mommy and you can carry me on your back." They offering the kids to us but we politely declined.
We really enjoyed the park, both on and off the trails.
After the Avenue of the Giants we continued down US-101 until we reached SR-1. It only took a couple of miles for me to add SR-1 to my list of favorite drives. After 12 mile of twists, turns and elevation changes we arrived to a fantastic vista at the coast.
After taking some time to soak in the sights, sounds and air we continued on to Fort Bragg where we checked into the Ocean View Lodge for a couple of nights and had dinner at the Cliff House Restaurant.
